Scorpion Sport Fishing, Flamingo Beach

Scorpion sportfishing

Scorpion Sportfishing was one of the first tourist activities in Flamingo Beach and Potrero Beach. Fishermen around the world know this place and have heard the stories of record catches in almost every category. The Catalina Islands and deep drop offs located offshore from Flamingo Beach offer great inshore and offshore fishing - providing year round opportunities for everything from Marlin and Sailfish to tuna, snapper, dorado, roosterfish, wahoo and mackerel.

Scorpion is a 58ft. Bertrum with twin 1271 Detroit engines, with a capacity for maximum nine passengers. Full day charters include lunches, baskets of fresh local fruit, ice cold beer, soda, bottled water and transportation to an from your hotel.

Scorpion has A/C, full galley, state-of-the-art equipment, IGFA tackle, Penn International and Fin-Nor reels, Pompanette fighting chair, complete safety and emergency gear, 20 years fishing experience, and our captains speak English. We believe in the preservation of the fishing resources and encourage all Billfish to be released.

Travel the world and you will agree the best year around fishing is in Costa Rica. The most rewarding experience is to hook, catch and release a Marlin. Here on the Pacific Coast we have Blue Marlin, about three to five hundred pounds, Black Marlin, seven to nine hundred pounds, and striped Marlin that average about 200 pounds. To hook a Marlin is truly a Kodak moment.

The Fish and Seasons Marlin - Caught every month of the year, with mid-November to early March exceptional, then slowing a bit from April into early June when the fishing picks up again, peaking in August and September.

Sailfish - Caught throughout the year, with May through August normally the top season. They may begin to thin out in September; the slowest months are from late August through November.

Roosterfish - They are around all year, but more are caught in the Bay of Papagayo area from November through March. Roosters like the structure of the shoreline and islands where they're found in 50 to 60 feet of water.

Dorado - More properly known as dolphin, these colorful gamefish are most abundant from late May through October when the seasonal rains flood the rivers, carrying out debris that forms weed lines close to shore where they like to lie. Troll past a floating log and you'll likely hook a dorado. Tuna Peak months are probably August through October, but there are always tuna throughout the year.

Yellowfin Tuna - are often found well inside the Catalina Islands, 30 minutes or less running time from the beach, while schools of 12 to 20lbs are usually abundant farther out.

Wahoo - They first appear when the rains start in mid-May, peaking in July and August. Most are caught around the rocky points and islands, but you will pick one up occasionally fishing offshore.
